Sunrise was beautiful this morning. It was a glorious night to sleep out under the stars. I saw bats flying over head while I was falling asleep. The stars were out the moon was not so big that it kept me awake. And there was no dew. I was bone dry in the morning. I got packed up quickly and hit the road early in the morning. Today's hiking weather has been just beautiful. Cool and a little Breezy. I only have 9 miles to go today so I'm planning on taking a long siesta in the middle of the day. I found this lovely resting spot along my hike. It's the only shade for miles! It was a bit early to find shade though so I only took an hour long break and kept going. At noon a found a small spot of shade and napped until 2. It was still hot to be hiking but I was ready to get going. While I was hiking I scared a rattlesnake (ok, it scared me). This one was tiny...so much smaller than the one I saw on the first day. Not long after that I saw a coyote! He was just trotting up the trail in midday with his attention down in the Gully and he didn't see me for a long time. When he did look up and see me he jumped up in the air and ran away.
I got to the watering hole and camping spot about 5 p.m. but after eating dinner and taking a rest I determined I was not ready to stop yet. I hiked another 3 miles to a lovely spot on a ridge. Again, sleeping out was very easy to do. I slept so soundly and awoke so pleased to be back on the trail. My shins feels good!
