I cowboy camped that night with no problems. I did not get all the way to 3rd gate casche but hit the trail by 6am the next day and I was there by 6:30...long before most of the folks who spent the night were up and moving.
The landscape was pretty barren in areas, but vastly beautiful
this was sitting by the trailside...I left it alone thank you. I was in great need of good old water!
I have no idea about the history of this cute little cave. I heard that a hiker spent the night in it. Not a bad idea if that is where you are ready to stop.
What a treat to finally hit mile 100. This is just a small fraction of what I need to cover.
This is a really cool rock sculpture near Warner Springs. There were some older fellows there doing some trail magic. They were giving out oranges and trail mix and sweet tea. I can't eat any of those things so I was not able to partake but as they were getting ready to leave I spotted an apple in the side pocket of one of the men's backpack. I sidled up to him and asked him if it was an apple. He said yes and asked if I wanted it. I said I did and he gave it to me. I had no idea I would be so forward so early in my trip when it came to begging for food. I swear...that was the best apple I ever ate.
At this point, it has been 22 miles and I am ready to get to Warner Springs
So were a lot of other hikers too! The place was packed because many of us were waiting out the storm and the rain. It was nice to have a dry place to hang out.
